more miscellanea
So I am officially 24. I don't think birthdays mean much, but it is nice to have a day where people show atleast the slightest bit of attention to you. It's more of a "me" day. A day where I am more important than many other people that I know. I rather like that.
So anyways, I said I'd review the Dark Knight, and so I shall. This review will contain SPOILERS so if you choose to read ahead, be forewarned.
Review of the Dark knight:
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and I could rave about everything that was great, but that would be boring. Instead, I am going to target areas that I found rather appalling.
Two-face: I thought this Character was a fucking joke. Considering how great the movie was and how much I admire Aaron Eckhart's ability as an actor, I was simply astonished at how contrived Two-face really was. The shift from Gotham's White knight to anger-driven sadist was far too abrupt to be taken seriously. Thumbs up to Dent and Eckhart, thumbs way down for Two-face.
The end sequence. Andrew put it best in his review of the movie. It would have been better-fitting had Gotham's white knight avenged his loss by killing the joker in cold blood. Alas, that did not happen; what ensued instead was a barrage of techi-junk in the form of sonar used to capitulate the final act. I thought it was trite and unnecessary. That being said, the movie was still great. 4.5/5 stars.
I just watched a movie that I should have seen a long time ago and I wish I did.
Review of Once:
Absolutely amazing movie. Perhaps the best movie I've seen of its kind: a Romantic musical. I was a bit hesitant in calling it a musical since it's anything but derivative and mainstream, but never the less, it was pure brilliance. I am willing to buy the sound track and it would be well worth every penny. Amazing performances and most of all, true performances. I am all in favour of Independent movies, and my favour has been repaid. Once was an absolutely magnificent flick. I usually don't cry for anything, but I do cry at movies. I cried at Once and I don't feel weird admitting that. I liked that the story wasn't cliched; It felt appropriate that things don't always need to end in harmony as long as you have good music to keep you through. Thumbs wayyyy the fuck up! 5/5 stars!
That ends this post.
