FUCK CHRISTMAS!
Is it just me or does the whole "merry Christmas" bit get just a bit more sickening with each pretentious greeting. "OOHH, MERRRY CHRISTMAS, EVERYBODY!". So I posted on facebook telling everyone to shut the fuck up about it. And no, Reuben, it's not because I hate Jesus; it's just so fucking dumb. Why does there need to be a "special" day where people pretend to give a shit about one another. I am sure it feels good to give and receive undeserved attention; but, that doesn't change the fact that it's still undeserved and downright stupid.
Don't leave any comments saying "merry christmas", because I know that's exactly what Reuben will do.
FUCK CHRISTMAS
That ends this post.

Comments:
Firstly, I saw your post on Facebook in the afternoon of the 25th and I didn't care, then later on that night I saw this post. But I thought it better that I don't just comment until after I let my initial annoyance subside and I read your post over a couple of times and figured out what it was you were trying to say in between the assumptions on my possible reactions to the post.
Secondly, the actual concept of Christmas as a Holiday that honours the birth of Jesus has taken a backseat to the concept of Christmas as that time of year where you buy presents and give them to people to show you love them. I thoroughly dislike the latter concept; however, like you, I have no issues with the former because at that point it is like any other religious holiday.
The whole "Merry Christmas" thing is a verbal representation of how hollow Christmas has become. What was once a time of thanks and appreciation of family has turned into a paradigm of consumerist excess.
Interestingly enough, there are people who truly make something of this time of year even if they do participate in the consumerist aspect of Christmas. I went to kyle's house on christmas day and what did I see: His family along with Jodi's boyfriend and Laura were all sitting together in the living room laughing, joking, and playing a new game they'd bought for the Nintendo Wii. Kyle's family has always been like that and it wasn't just for show. They really do enjoy being together and spending time with each other.
On that note, I like the idea of a time of year where people reflect on their lives and take time out of their schedules to be with family. As a society, we are far to preoccupied with schedules and time constraints etc. to enjoy anyone's company and that blows. The holiday season (as it's now called for the sake of inclusion) gives people that excuse to take a break from life and to reflect on their year. If they choose not to, then fine by them, but at least there is the option to do so.
As a kid, I used to look forward to getting gifts at Christmas. As an adult, I look forward to seeing people I don't get the opportunity to see during the year because of their busy schedules. As the years go on, I plan to disassociate myself from Christmas shopping more and more, but I don't plan on disassociating myself with the aspect of Christmas that I've always liked: the unity of family and friends.

While I don't disagree with your post, I think you somewhat missed the point of my post. I was just annoyed at everyone saying "merry christmas" to everyone. I have no problem with people spending time with one another and enjoying each other's company. But saying "merry christmas" to anyone and everyone as if it means a damn thing makes the whole occassion seem like an entire farce.
I am not sure what it's even supposed to mean anymore. Is it just an excuse to give people attention undue attention so that you can feel better about yourself? so that you receive the same attention in return? Only just to not speak with most of them for a great while longer until the next christmas rolls around just to repeat the process over again?
I don't know; I don't know what it's like to be in the company of family and friends on Christmas where there's that supposed, inherent joy that one experiences when saying or hearing that frivolous expression. But it annoys me when my entire facebook is littered with these sayings and it's likely that most of the people are only saying it for pseudo purposes.
The whole consumerist aspect is clearly bullshit, and that's really what it's all about these days; but, I wasn't arguing that.
If people are getting together to enjoy each others' company and whilst doing so, say "merry christmas" to one another, then it isn't a big deal since it's just a formality. But what's the point in texting everyone "merry christmas" and facebooking people every instant to tell them something that you don't really mean in the first place?
Perhaps it doesn't hurt to give attention to people even if you don't really mean it. Hell, I am sure it feels nice to give and receive undeserved attention and it would be tough to argue against that. However, that still doesn't change the fact that it's bloody-as-hell annoying at times.
